The star has donated the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize cash to the trust for venues, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's small music venues.

The star was given the award on 16 October as his latest record his work was declared the best record of the previous year.

The musician has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages played in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these venues have permanently closed – approximately one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, well-known musicians like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its initiatives to support the industry, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

He also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to support 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation supported venues that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges arising from water damage, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Other venues received financial assistance in modernizing amenities and gear that positively impacted performers and audiences.

"The concept that money from concerts in large arenas backs the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

The musician is among several artists to contribute his award funds to good deeds.

Back when they earned the trophy in the mid-90s for their album the album, lead singer Cocker announced that the act would give their cash to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer the artist split her prize between multiple good causes, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I gave a grand to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they required updated gear," the artist explained to the media.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their act, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients M People contributed their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was found to have the illness.

"The victory was ample," stated singer Small. "The money was the extra but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our winning touched the lives of others."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected two local spots in south-east England, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in the city and The Croft in the city were purchased under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by the arts council and supporters who buy "shares" in the properties.
